The Importance Of Having Your Own Passions

In a lot of posts I’ve talked about how important it is for women (and men, for that matter) to have their own passions.

Here I want to explain why that is.

First things first though, what do I mean by a passion? Well, by passion I mean something more than just a simple like or dislike of films, books, or watching sports.

Liking something is not the same as having a PASSION for it.

A passion is almost like a higher calling. We might define a passion as: Any activity or pursuit that you feel so emotionally attached to it literally makes your life worth living.

Pablo Picasso was born to paint. A famous quote by the artist goes like this:

“If they took away my paints I’d use pastels. If they took away my pastels I’d use crayons. If they took away my crayons I’d use pencils. If they stripped me naked and threw me in prison I’d spit on my finger and paint on the walls.”

Now THAT’S a passion.

Can you imagine the power something like that gives you? Let me break down four reasons why you need to find a calling like this in your own life

1. It’s the key to eliminating neediness

When your life has a purpose i.e. something that excites you so much you literally can’t wait to get out of bed to pursue it, you’ll never be needy again.

When we have nothing like this, we try and attach ourselves to other people, because we are unable to satisfy ourselves.

2. You’ll become magnetic to other people

People who are passionate draw us in; we can feel their enthusiasm and it becomes infectious.

When you talk about your passion, you’ll get excited and sound more interesting because of it. When people think of themselves as boring, it’s usually because they talk about things that bore them!

People will also be drawn to you because you’re doing something you love, which will come across in your personality.

3. You’ll feel just as strong even without a relationship

Though relationships can give meaning to our lives and even may be the most important part of them, you’ll never truly flourish as an individual until you have a purpose that is unique to you.

Having a passion gives you that purpose, and makes you feel strong even with or without a man, because you know you have something you truly love that you can always positively devote your efforts towards.

4. You’re conversation will become effortless

When you have a passion, you’re conversational skill will increase tenfold.

Not only this, but now you realize the importance of passions; find out what other people’s are! Everyone has one, and you can use conversation to dig down into what people are passionate about, and get them to talk about it!

People love talking about their passions, and the more you get them to do so the more they’ll enjoy your company, because they’ll remember those good feelings they get when they speak to you.

Cool stuff, right? Let me know what you think…

  • Totally agree with this, I always used to work in the city and never had the chance to do anything I wanted to do other than, the gym.

As soon as I started doing things I wanted to do, like dancing and painting, my life just felt so much more fulfilling and I had something that I was excited to talk about to people. Makes perfect sense to get out their and try more.

  • I totally agree with having your own passions in life, you are you’re own person with your own mind, this makes you more unique, exciting, interesting and more importantly defines who you are. Follow your dreams and live the life YOU want to live!
