This Secret Makes Work Feel Like Paradise

Today I’m coming to you from Bora Bora.

I’ve not taken a holiday in a while, and so thought now that I am, I’d better do it right!

(Sorry the audio is a little choppy in places – that’s what I get for not bringing Jameson along with me!)

Want coaching on a much deeper level? Take things to the next level on one of the two opportunities left this year to come and join me on a Retreat:

San Diego, August 24-28

  • I love when you talk about not just our love lives, but how we live life in general. Great stuff, Matt!

  • You’re so awesome! I really love the message of this video. Life can be so special and adventurous when one finds a passion that no longer has work feeling like a job. I mean check you out, “on the job” while on vacation! It’s truly wonderful and inspiring. I can definitely see how this translates into making someone more attractive as a result of healthy self-esteem and drive to create such a great life. Thank you for all you do :)

  • Hello Matthew Hussey! I’ve been incorporating your words of wisdom into my personal development over the past year and felt like I needed to share a personal tangent off this beautiful video (Bora Bora eh… I better be invited next time ;-) )

So I’m leaving tomorrow for a vacation to my home town for a wedding (who doesn’t love a good wedding with an open bar?!) and have been generally unhappy with work for a while now. I made a joke to an old friend a couple weeks ago that my boss will be lucky if I return and it made me REALLY think about why that is. I love my profession (mixed animal veterinarian) and despite some daily obstacles, I believe that I chose the right profession. I also really like my boss personally (nice guy, friendly and easy to get along with), so why am I so freakin unhappy? It’s not because he’s a dick… It’s not because he’s controlling… It has nothing to do with the location… A month ago I even finished reading Work With Me (great read about the blind spots between men and women in the workplace) and even this new found understanding about the innate differences between me and my male boss didn’t do the trick so what’s the real problem???? Over the past year I have immersed myself in learning about the core differences between men and women in life, love and relationships and I love men a million times more now than I did before and it shows in my now successful personal life so what the heck is up? Well, after many nights of soul searching I realized it is because our core business and medical values don’t line up, not to mention the fact that I feel undervalued for the hard work I do. *Lightbulb* It’s because our CORE values are not aligned. Duh. What is one of the most important relationship principles. If your values do not align then the relationship is doomed. Double duh. Suddenly it all makes sense. The worst part is that I declined his job offer twice before being convinced to take it (big mistake). On some level I knew our values were not aligned. So full circle now back to my ever evolving relationship wisdom… Ladies I’m not saying don’t go on a second date with a guy because of an instinct (unless it’s screaming this man is dangerous), but don’t marry the guy. Before anybody gets into a serious relationship (move in, marriage, change zip codes etc) sit down and write down your CORE personal values and write down his. If they don’t align (everybody can work with I like wine and he likes beer… not a core value) then POLITELY excuse yourself from the relationship (personal or professional) before you regret this big change or commitment. As you have said before Matthew, you can work with expectations, but values are another beast entirely. They are what motivate us! They are what drive us at our core! And I do not believe they should ever be compromised!

Tangent complete. I hope somebody learns from my mistake either personally or professionally. Thanks again Matthew for all your hard work and insight in this field and I hope you always retain your professional enthusiasm! And I wasn’t kidding about expecting an invite next trip to someplace exotic ;-)

  • Hi Matt,
I enjoyed seeing a little of Bora Bora and the cheerful music. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts beyond dating. It’s the stuff beneath; finding my peeps/relationship.. i’m thinking that falls into place later.
(just watched it a second time).
    Thanks,
    Anne

  • Hi Matt! I love those videos!

I was wondering how do you get out of ruts? I’m trying to get a job (career) but nothing seems to work! I’ve tried different things as well, but I’m stuck.

    Thanks!

  • Yes! I fully appreciate these topics that cover a wider swath! I’m no longer interested in finding a guy. I’m interested in building a life. This had been the most challenging, most humbling year of my life. I’m grateful for the lessons and I’m glad to hear you speak in more general terms. : )

  • thank you for this video, i have an anatomy and physiology exam next month, which i wasnt looking forward to studying for, but thanks to your thoughts and ideas, i am looking at things in a different light, thank you so much.

  • I love this video with the background of your vacation. It gives me calming effects from the water yet rejuvenate from the colors to do anything, everything! Your words of wisdom reminds me why I enjoy almost any job or chore I do. I call it my attitude, you refer to it as context. Either way its all how we perceive things. As we grow to realize we can’t change people only ourselves, although we can encourage others, its mainly changes within ourselves that is the ultimate diffence in our lives. Background can be anything and temporary changes of it can inspire. Example: I use to work out with Denise Austin on tv; but when she starting going to different islands, I would be excited to work out to see the ocean views.

  • Love you Matt. Your personal coaching continues to inspire and create more happiness in my life. Thank you so much! Am in New Zealand and recently gone self employed so one of my goals is to get to one of your retreats. Please keep doing them as it will be late next year hopefully that I can attend and benefit from your teachings. Huge appreciation x
