I Want You to Join Me on My Journey…

I’m on my tour right now (this week’s video is actually shot at the Chicago airport!) and I have an awesome surprise for you…

I want to bring you on my journey.

No, you don’t need your passport and you don’t even need to take any vacation days.

I explain everything here…

    Hi Matt,

I’m dragging my cousin to your next event. In the meantime, wonder what your advice to her would be. She met an investment banker who seemed fine but the way things went, were odd. This is why I am making her attend your next live event. Here is what happened:

They saw each other for about 6 months. In between dates or when he was traveling for work he wrote endless “I love you” emails to her. Around American Thanksgiving last year, he told her that he suddenly had to move to Europe for a dream job. Then contacts her when he said he was now across the Atlantic from her. Here’s the catch: Turned out he was most likely still local yet had the audacity to ask my cousin “what can we create from this because I feel such a connection between us because you can see right through me.”

What he didn’t factor in the equation is an app like Steak. Not realizing that apps like it and similar others were designed to make sure people can verify critical e-mails were sent and received. So it’s not so much that my cousin has X-Ray vision but her email just happened to have the app attached to it. She had been an early adapter of the app for months and just never mentioned it to anyone since no one else in her circle said that were geographically not where they were. Steak was designed to indicate the time, date, and physical location of where and when a message was opened and read. So if it was read by the recipient on a device physically located at the time in Chicago, and they say they are in Munich, guess who the liar is.

She knew he was lying after his tale of life in Europe through email messages went on and on and on for two months. Eventually it was clear that it wasn’t a technical error but a simple, good old-fashioned lie. She didn’t confront him. She just deleted and blocked him from her phone, email, skype, etc.

Intellectually she knows its not her fault he lied so elaborately to her. But she is sad and confused still. Any advice? Yes, she began seeing a therapist after it happened, its helping but I’ve never seen her so heartbroken because of the shock of his crazy lies.

You’re well-loved by all of us and I’m so grateful for your warmth, sincerity and helpful advice! xo

  17. Renee Lang says:

    What? You’re not perfect?!?! LOL

    Thank God!!!

Can’t wait to see you being a normal human, instead of the “super(hu)man” some people may think you are. ; )

Thank you for offering this side of you into the mix!

  18. Marti says:

Everyone has issues. I try to save mine for at least the second date. But, after fifteen years of ‘overcoming’ ms, the limp has become obvious, and I sometimes need a cane to get where I want to go. I have made so many choices in the spirit of overcoming, that ms is part of the fabric of my story. When and how can I explain my health condition to someone special, without being completely defined by what seems to be a limitation?

    • Irine says:

      I like your question ;-)

      • Michell'e says:

Matt, I, too love this question. I’d really love to hear/read your response to her. This is really a great question. Kudos for asking this! There’s a lot us out there with certain insecurities which we suffer with. Help!

    • Vavavoom says:

hmm.. how about that video matt made with the als ice bucket challenge? didn’t he touch upon the topic of not letting your weaknesses be defined as oobstacles, but find what it is about them that makes them your strenght? Ditch your excuse and get the guy… it’s called..

  19. Hadas says:

Matthew you are such an amazing handsome sweetheart ! :):)
Looking forward to “join” your journey, cause unfortunately I guess you won’t arrive to my country with your seminar.. keep doing your thing. I/we sure enjoy it !

  20. hyeji says:

you’re opening yourself up and becoming more vulnerable! ;) love it. I always felt your strength was this- ‘making the human connection on a deeper level’ as the most important theme.

  21. Liz Taylor says:

Aghhh! I’m so excited to see behind the scenes! Behind the scenes has always been my favorite. As a filmmaker, and a fellow creative entrepreneur, I am really excited to see the day to day mechanics of the getting done of all you have to do to grow your dreams. This is such a great idea. I also want to give a high-five and shout out to Jameson for doing such an amazing job on the Fifty Shades of Earl Grey spoof! Outstanding work matching up with the real trailer. You too Mathew! You were better than the real guy they cast to play Christian. Love ya’ll !!

  22. Helen Bracegirdle says:

Feeling intrigued … I await to see what unfolds .. Kind regards Matt

  23. Tricia says:

Wonderful role-model video! Would that more people kept their very personal conversations at a lower level as you are showing here

  24. Ariella says:

    Excited! :)

  25. c says:

Cool idea Matt! Looking forward to it! The clip Jameson put together at the end of this video is very exciting – it portrays the atmosphere of your live event very well.

    stéssy

  27. Kasandra says:

    Get well soon, Matthew!~~~

  28. Jana says:

You were amazing in London! Couldn’t believe you had so much energy for that many hours and never lost it!

I would really like to know what camera Jameson uses? His compression is amazing also, getting it small enough for YouTube playback though without much degrading the video quality and resolution! Overall Jameson is a really good film maker and editor! I’m jealous you have him and am excited to see more of your guys videos and shows!

  29. Gale says:

I love this concept. Not only the creativity, but the generous sharing of the man. I felt the genuine gift and saw Matt get teary eyed at the end. I feel honored that I am included in Matt’s life. Also, to see him go from that young boy on YouTube, to a strong, competent man. It’s a beautiful sight. His mum (and I’m American) must be so proud. Gale

Love your perceptiveness and brains, thank you for doing this Matt, feels like you’re a part of my life almost. You and your team inspire me so much!!!
    X Eva

  42. Lauren says:

How fun! What a cool idea! This is so innovative Matt! I’ve only seen rock stars release behind the scenes footage- but then again you are totally a rock star in you’re own right and you definitely seem to have the schedule of a rock star! I can’t wait to learn some awesome tips from your behind the scenes journey and see what the process is like for you. It’s really intimidating go after things you want when you just see someone’s final product and assume it just happened that way because it’s so perfected. In reality you know that’s not true but your mind plays tricks with you. I’m sure this will be inspirational! Awesome idea :)

  43. maya says:

i will follow u all the way. u r genius and very creative. of course too hot to even think about it

  44. Lyla says:

Will every tour stop be taped? I would like to come on the tour as planned but my friends hate being video taped.

  45. Lyla says:

    First comment :)
