My SCARY Journey To The Top

So…I realised I’m scared of dying.

Not exactly shocking news, but I had one of those moments in this week’s video, climbing up the steps of the Peñon de Guatapé in Colombia when I thought “PLEASE JUST LET ME SURVIVE THIS!”

On your way up the mountain, everything is scary.

We might fall and come crashing down to where we started. Or the journey upwards will be arduous and painful, and we never quite know for sure whether we’re going to ever reach our destination.

We all have our summits to reach in life… in our health, relationships, career. Getting to that target weight, writing that book we keep talking about, meeting that person and being fulfilled in our personal life – it can all seem scary to begin, especially when we worry about getting stuck in the middle and wondering what to do next.

So this video is my KICK UP THE BUTT… not just as a reminder to you, but to me.

One step at a time.

  • Hi Mr Braveheart
Love your video and thank you for sharing a part of your journey.

  • Yaay so thrilled you were in Colombia!!
It’s so true that looking down (how far we’ve come) and not just looking up is incredibly helpful. Still single here, but so grateful for the person I’ve become, the woman I am becoming.
I’m scared = tengo miedo (for you’re next adventure)
Lots of love from a Colombian in Paris, enjoy the mangoes and jugo de lulo!

  • Thank you Matthew, this is very inspiring and exactly what I needed to hear on this Monday morning where I see a huge rock to climb in front of me.

  • O please..you need to do some base jumping to really make you pucker….not some wuss tourist’s thing!

  • Ohhh my God!! What a great video, nothing to do i am Colombian!! But, deep message and, and great video!

  • Looks like I am not the only one climbing up my own version of Peñon de Guatapé. (or actually climbing it with her sister … wow by the way to Berany and her sister for such an accomplishment. What a testament of what love and courage can get you through.)
Just wanted to thank you and Jameson for such an inspiring video and to those ladies who commented with such positive energy.
btw I am Colombian too :-)
So many of us out there. That is cool.

  • What a great video. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I have been at a plateau for 6 months after gaining back 10 of the 22 pounds I lost…and now have 60 more to go. When you climb a mountain there are plateaus. And maybe it takes more time for one person than another to reach the summit because of falling back and starting over. But, starting over at a newer height than the beginning. So it is good to look up and see the top as it gets smaller as you reach it…and it is good to look back to see how far you have come because it gets larger as you pass it.
    Thank you Mathew.
